'notepads' are for losers.
one of my roommates and i are the only ones amongst our friends who don't own some sort of crackberry, iphone, or those random verizon smartphones that NO ONE knows how to work...(mandy, you are the biggest culprit, i sat for 15 minutes trying to read your text messages and couldn't figure it out.) when you don't even pay for internet service on an internet capable phone, unfortunately your 'notepad' becomes the only tool that you can very rarely use. it's really only when you're in an extreme predicament where there is no paper, no computer, and absolutely no writing utensil to write down something you reallllyyyy want to remember.
hence, 'note 2', that was recorded on november 26th, at 8:50am. i find it weird that i was reading a washington irving quote that early in the morning, but anyways, here's an awesome quote. to where it's origins can be attributed to, i have no idea. i don't even remember taking it down.
"it is, indeed, the season of regenerated feeling- the season, for kindling, not merely the fire of hospitality in the hall, but the genial flame of charity in the heart." -washington irving
obviously pertains to the holiday season, but recent events make me think it is a statement that rings true, no matter what time of the year it is.

you go lady gaga!

in case you haven't heard, lady gaga has officially become a creative director for polaroid! according to the company's website, the decision is part of a "multi-year strategic partnership" with gags, and is a result of her being, well, awesome.
i also think this is awesome. it not only proves the longevity that many think gaga's career will have, but now i definitely want a polaroid! it's funny, my friend and i actually had a conversation a couple of weeks back about polaroid cameras, and how much fun they are yet not incredibly easy to find. my friend did her final graphic design project with a few polaroid ideas and inspirations of the camera's classic style, and it came out great! hopefully lady gaga will come out with some crazy camera by the end of 2010 and i'll be able to put it on my christmas list.
thanks gags for the tweet pic.

the reader: read it or see it!

with more than a month for my winter break, i embarked on a goal to read more literature because, to be honest, i feel like i forget how to read a book after months of only reading facebook wall posts, perez hilton updates, and twitter feeds. terrible. the first book that i chose was the reader, a novel by bernard schlink. by chance it was an excellent first pick, for within the pages, lay a heart breaking story of love, betrayal, ignorance, and if that weren't enough, schlink brought in the holocaust. you can't go wrong when someone brings up the holocaust in a book...
during an impromptu trip to walmart, i happened upon the recently produced movie version of schlink's novel featuring kate winslet, who won a much deserved oscar in 2009 for her performance in the film. i had to buy it, something i absolutely never do, and immediately a love affair with the film commenced. it's very rare to find a movie that is supposed to accurately represent a work of literature, and does the said job well, and in this case, marvelously. go check it out, the film speaks for itself, and i would only do it injustice!
a new year, a new me.
"the meaning of life is beyond me. the best i can do is deal with it one word at a time." - Larry Gelbart
i've been putting off writing my first post of the new year, despite making it a resolution to post more, because i've been very apprehensive about putting across what i truly want to accomplish with something that almost everyone has. everyone wants to be important, that's why literally almost everyone blogs. it's a way to show your true interests, what you stand for, what your outlooks are. just like everyone else, and just like larry, i'm simply trying to figure out where i stand in the chaos, what i stand for amongst the many, and who i am as a good, well at least hopefully good, person.
i've learned a lot about myself over the past few months, learned enough to realize that the writing style/subjects of my previous blog posts don't depict an accurate representation of who i am, and what i stand for. sure, i love lady gaga, i think she's simply awe-inspiring and a true artist, but going on a 500 word rant about whether her career will last, which will, isn't necessarily what's most important to me. i want to produce a blog that everyone can read, my parents included. profanity and provactivity are definitely insitutions that i chose to challenge; but that can be done in a refined and classy manner. overall, i want this blog to be a spot-on representation of what goes through my brain, what interests me, what i care about in the moment. therefore, a fluidity among posts probably won't be able to be deciphered. so although those previous posts are today what i think to be a bunch of garbahge, i'll leave them there, cause at one time, that's what i was thinking, and that's what i thought would be interteresting. but today starts the evolution of the simplest form of what life means to me, "one word at a time."
